Koreans have been telling me that the weather has been weird the past couple of years. Summers come earlier, making the spring season seem so short and fleeting. Seems like what they said is true because it’s soooo hot!
So I went down to shinae to pick up some sunblock and boy, so many choices! I picked one from each cosmetic store- Nature Republic, Innisfree, and Faceshop. The best part of shopping from these placesare the little samples. Man, I love shopping in Korea! :)

Korean Taxi Etiquette

If you’re traveling to a destination by taxi in Korea, here are some things you should know…
  1. Wave down a taxi on the same side (right side passenger door) of the road. If you’re waving at the other side, then they will pass by you.
  2. When you successfully catch a taxi, always open the door that’s diagonally opposite from the taxi driver. Drivers do not like you to open the behind door that is directly behind them.
  3. Say “Hello” and the name of the destination.
  4. Don’t eat or drink in the taxi.
  5. On the way to the destination, keep your wallet close to you. A couple of minutes before you get off, pull out your money, and get ready to hand over the EXACT change or amount that is close to the fare. Pulling out a 50,000won for a 2,200won fare is not fun for the driver. Taxi drivers don’t make a lot of money, so please utilize their time efficiently. They don’t have the patience to wait for you to dig through your bag for your wallet, and count 100wons.
  6. Say “Goodbye” and securely close the door before you walk away.

Let’s Play Bluff

In Chungdae, there is a place called Game Room. It’s located in the basement of a dodgy building, but once you go inside, the room is actually pretty neat, filled with shelves and shelves of games. I was there for 4 hours, playing games like Bluff, BS, Clue, and darts! It was pretty fun. The owner was friendly and seemed to know the rules to every game in the room because customers would ask how to play games and he would explain the rules easily. Anyway, one of the good places to chill and spend some good time without alcohol!

Got yelled at…

…by the bus driver :P

I don’t like my bus because it never comes on time. There are times when I have to wait 40 minutes for the bus, and I hate it every. single. time. Damn you, 611.

Anyway, to get to my school, I have to pay extra because it’s far out in the country. At first, I didn’t know that, and the bus drivers never questioned me even though I ride the bus at the same place and at the same time. But later on, they knew I was coming from the city, so they automatically charge me the extra without me telling them. Problem solved. No biggie.

However, on one unlucky day…maybe the bus driver got dumped by his girlfriend or he stepped on dog crap by accident…he yelled at a highschool student and me before we got off the bus.

Bus driver: “Haksaeng. You didn’t say you’re getting off at Oksan. Come over here and pay the extra! You’re so irresponsible, come over here and pay!”

[Kid walks over and pay the extra]

When I saw this, I automatically got up to get off at the back of the bus. I was too embarrassed and scared because they were teachers getting off the bus as well. Then he called out:

Bus driver: “Excuse me. The lady with the earphones. You didn’t say you were going to Oksan either. Come over here and pay!”

I pretend not to hear…

Bus driver: “Hey lady! Stop pretending you can’t hear me. Come over here and pay!”

I walked over and clicked my card. Then, I proceed to get off, and I saw my friend, who is also a teacher. She gave me an uneasy look. When I got off, I noticed some of the teachers looking at me. I digged into my bag, pretending I was looking for something, but I was actually trying to hide my red face from them. I was so embarrassed.

Anyway, that incident put a damper in my mood throughout the day. The next time I see that driver…I’m gonna…hmph. I hope he doesn’t get a girlfriend for a thousand years!

I thought I was a terrible gadget/electronic user because I killed my dad’s and brother’s computer within 6 months. But there’s a reason. No, it’s not porn…it’s the plug configuration!

U.S. and Asian countries use different voltages. The standard voltage system for US is 110V while Asian countries like Korea, Philippines, and China uses 220V. So what do you need? A transformer? An Adapter? Or a converter?

An adapter is simply an add-on plug in. Pretty much, you need it when you need to fit your electronic’s plug on one side and the prongs fit the outlet on the other.

A converter is used for non-dual voltage electric appliances like hair dryers, irons, and other heating devices with motors inside. The converter lowers the 220V current down to 110V. If you don’t use a converter, but use an adapter for your hairdryer, then you will break your expensive appliance.

A transformer is also for non-dual voltage electronic gadgets and appliances such as radios, shavers, computers, and TVs. The transformer changes the voltage, so they can function. Also, transformers aren’t designed for long, continuous use. If you need to charge and use your computer, buy a heavy-duty transformer so you won’t damage your computer in the long run.

Remember I had indigestion on one weekend? The following days, my MT wasn’t feeling well either, and she took a sick day. I have a feeling the cause it’s exhaustion…because she is a party animal! She works hard, but plays harder. My model :) BAHAHAha
Anyway, a care package idea popped in my head, so H. and I went to the supermarket to buy vitamin drinks, energy drink, candy, chocolate, and more. We also wrapped ribbons around the drinks and greeting card to make it more personal and cute. MT walked in this morning, and she loved it! I didn’t see it, but she told me she was so grateful- “오늘 아침에 완전 감동이었어!!! 완전 고마위 ㅠ”
Anything for my MT :) She’s such a great person, in and out ㅋㅋㅋ
